Things are constantly changing in the Walker household, especially since we discovered we are expecting our second child, Cain, in December of this year. We are constantly preparing our 2 year-old son, Cooper, for this exciting new journey, as well as preparing ourselves for the unknown. Cain's journey thus far has been one of uncertainty in the eyes of the doctors, nurses and specialists. However, we know and believe that God alone holds all the answers, and He has something wonderful planned for Cain's little life.
Cain's Journey began in March, but we discovered his coming on April 9th. Since then, our lives have been a whirlwind of doctors appointments, ultrasounds and blood tests. After being told at 12 weeks that Cain's nuchal translucency/thickness was high, almost 5 mm when it should fall under 2.8 mm, we were urged to proceed with an amniocentesis or chorionic villus sampling (CVS) to determine if a chromosomal disorder was present. We opted for the CVS on May 27th, and on June 7th, we were informed that our results fell within the normal range meaning our unborn child was potentially free of this category of disorders. We also learned that we were expecting another son. What wonderful news!
However, the doctor's appointments that have followed have left us still wondering if Cain has some condition that has not or cannot be detected. After two more ultrasounds on Cain's tiny little heart, our specialist still is uncertain of what she has seen. She is sending us in one week to a Pediatric Cardiologist for our first fetal echo in hopes of obtaining some clarification about the status of Cain's heart. Although uncertainty isn't a new visitor with us, it's never a welcome one.
And so we wait. We wait hoping that all is okay. We trust that God knows our needs and hears our prayers, and that he will handle Cain's life as only He sees fit.
